Peet's is committed to delivering the highest quality coffee possible. Our packaging and freshness standards are designed to protect flavor and aroma from the time coffee is roasted until it reaches your cup.
Packaging
NOTE: To support sustainability efforts and reduce packaging waste, Peet's removed the tin tie from coffee bags. This change does not affect coffee freshness. All coffee bags continue to feature a one-way freshness valve and a heat-sealed closure to help protect quality before opening.
Coffee bags are sealed using a process called Nitrogen Flushing, which reduces exposure to oxygen and helps preserve freshness.
Our coffee bags are made from a combination of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and aluminum, providing a durable barrier that helps protect the coffee inside. Recycling availability varies by location, so please check with your local recycling provider to determine whether these materials are accepted in your area.
Freshness Dating
Peet's coffee bags display a Freshest By date rather than a roast date. This date is set 365 days from roasting and reflects the period during which the coffee meets Peet's quality standards for flavor and aroma.
The Freshest By date is not an expiration date. Coffee remains safe to drink after this date, but its flavor and freshness may gradually diminish over time.
Coffee Storage
For the best flavor, coffee should be stored in an airtight container at room temperature and kept away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture.
Once opened, transferring coffee from the original bag to an airtight container can help maintain peak freshness. For optimal quality, we recommend enjoying your coffee by the printed Freshest By date.
