K-Cup® Pod Recycling
Peet's K-Cup® pods are made from recyclable #5 polypropylene plastic, the same material commonly used in products such as yogurt containers and butter tubs.
Recycling acceptance varies by location, and not all facilities that accept #5 plastic can process K-Cup® pods.
Before recycling:
- Check with your local recycling provider to confirm K-Cup® pods are accepted.
- Remove the foil lid.
- Compost or dispose of the used coffee grounds.
For guidance on local recycling requirements, contact your municipal recycling or waste management provider.
Espresso Capsule Packaging & Recycling
Peet's Espresso capsules are made from aluminum, which helps protect coffee freshness by locking in flavor and aroma while also being infinitely recyclable.
The coffee itself does not come into contact with the aluminum shell. Each capsule contains a thin food-grade inner lining that creates an airtight seal and protects the coffee.
Aluminum does not affect the taste of the coffee and is widely used throughout the food and beverage industry.
Capsule Recycling Program
Peet's partners with g2 revolution® to offer a dedicated recycling program for used Peet's Espresso capsules.
Recycling kits can be:
- Requested online by paying shipping only
- Added to qualifying online coffee orders at no additional charge
- Available through select Peet's Coffeebar locations
The program is currently available in the contiguous 48 United States and is not available in Alaska, Hawaii, or U.S. Territories.
Recycling Kit Guidelines
- Recycling kits are intended for Peet's aluminum espresso capsules.
- Other aluminum capsule brands may be accepted by the recycling partner, though the program is designed specifically for Peet's capsules.
- Do not place K-Cup® pods or plastic capsules in the recycling kit.
- A recycling bag holds approximately 220 used capsules.
- For best results, bags should be returned approximately every 6 weeks.
Once received, g2 revolution® separates the capsule materials, recycles the aluminum, and converts the coffee grounds into compost.
Bagged Coffee Packaging
Peet's coffee bags are made from a combination of:
- Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET)
- Aluminum
This packaging helps preserve coffee freshness and quality. Recycling availability varies by municipality, so please check with your local recycling provider to determine whether these materials are accepted in your area.
NOTE: As part of our efforts to reduce packaging waste, Peet's removed the tin tie from coffee bags. This change supports sustainability goals without affecting coffee freshness or quality.
Tea Packaging
Peet's tea pouches are made from renewable materials and do not contain plastic or petroleum-based polymers. The pouch material is derived from sugar cane and stitched with unbleached cotton.
Tea pouches are commercially compostable where industrial composting facilities are available.

Our espresso capsule packaging uses FSC-certified cardboard, helping ensure that packaging materials come from responsibly managed sources.
Capsule cartons are designed to minimize excess packaging materials while protecting capsules during shipping and storage. The internal packaging layout also improves usability while reducing unnecessary waste.
